The method
Five steps that work with every AI tool.
These five steps do not change when the tool changes. They are the part of every guidebook worth keeping after the buttons have been renamed.
Your path: 0 of 5 steps finished. Continue with Step 1: Pause
Step 1 · Pause
Think before you type. What do I want? Is any of this private?
Stop before you act on an answer. Nothing an AI tool says needs to be used in the next minute.
Step 2 · Ask
Write your question in plain words.
Ask again in your own words. “Please make that simpler.” “Use a real-life example.” “Give me only three steps.”
Step 3 · Check
Look over the answer. Is it right? Where did it come from?
Check anything that affects money, health, legal matters, or safety with an official source or a trusted person.
Step 4 · Protect
Keep your private details safe. Watch for scams.
Protect private details. No Social Security number, bank or card numbers, full medical records, or passwords.
Step 5 · Improve
Review, refine and re-ask.
Review, refine and re-ask. Look back on what worked, keep learning, and ask someone you trust to help make your next step safer.
The steps, in one sentence
Every practice task in the guidebooks opens with the same reminder:
“Change the request to fit your own life, use only information you are comfortable sharing, pause when something is unclear, and ask a trusted person when the decision is important. It is normal to ask again.”
Each guidebook also adds an extra caution for its own tool. The five steps stay the same.
Screens change. The steps do not.
Do not worry if your screen is not exactly like the picture. Buttons, words, and menus change. Look for the same purpose: a place to sign in or open the program, a place to start, a message box, and a send button.
Each guidebook records the date its screen labels were checked against the maker’s own pages, and a printed QR code leads to an Adaptive Editions™ version check.
One shared learning journey, with clear device pathways.
About this guidebook
What the tool is, who makes it, what it costs, and what to expect.
Choose your pathway
Start with the device in front of you: computer or browser, iPhone or iPad, Android, or Windows, Mac and Linux for desktop programs.
Words on your screen
What the tool calls each action, in its own words, matched to the words used across the whole series.
Five practice tasks
Ask for a simple explanation; turn a hard letter into plain words; draft a kind, clear message; prepare questions before an appointment; make a small plan you can follow.
AI SafeStep™ checkpoint
Pause, Ask, Check, Protect, and Improve, plus an extra caution specific to the tool.
Adaptive Editions™ version check
A QR code lets the reader confirm the guidebook still matches what they see on screen.
Official links
Always start from the official address. Look-alike sites and look-alike apps are the most common way learners are misled.
